The US Department of Defence has awarded RTX funding to produce and supply homing heads for Tomahawk cruise missiles.

Here's What We Know

The US military wants to use Tomahawk cruise missiles to destroy enemy ships. The concept is called Maritime Strike Tomahawk (MST) and involves Tomahawk missiles upgraded to Block V.

RTX has been awarded nearly $124.3 million. The contract is aimed at supporting small-scale production of the MST. Work will be performed at the company's facilities in Colorado, Arizona, Utah, Texas, Michigan, Arkansas, Ohio and Minnesota.

The US Navy is expected to begin receiving the first MST missiles in late 2024. The U.S. Marine Corps has previously notified the service of its desire to acquire the MST. The Block V version can change targets during flight and has improved navigation that can destroy moving maritime targets up to 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometres) away.
