We have written many times about how the Ukrainian Armed Forces are using drones to destroy Russian tanks. The US Army wants to adopt the experience of the Ukrainians.

Here's What We Know

Last month, the US Army announced a project called Low Altitude Stalking and Strike Ordnance, or LASSO. The system includes a drone with a lethal payload, electro-optical/infrared cameras, a control station and a tube-shaped launcher.

The system should provide the military with the ability to track and destroy targets at a distance. What is interesting is that the US Army's need for such drones is noted as "urgent".

The US Army is preparing to face an equal opponent, so it needs drones capable of destroying enemy tanks. US Army combat teams and infantry brigades are expected to receive kamikaze drones next year.

Ukraine's armed forces use drones of different classes to destroy Russian tanks. FPV drones have been gaining popularity in recent months. The $300-1000 devices are capable of destroying armoured vehicles worth millions of dollars, including the latest upgraded T-90M tanks.

Ukraine is also using large R18 drones. They do not act as kamikazes, but can drop anti-tank grenades on enemy vehicles. One such drone costs almost $20,000.
