At 11, the girl reduced her double name to Marlin. In 1922, she unsuccessfully tried to enter the acting school of Max Reinhardt in the Deutsche Theater, but the director Berthold Held agreed to give Dietrich private lessons. World fame came to Marlene Dietrich with the release of the film "Blue Angel", in which she played the singer of a nightclub. The actress received her first and only Oscar nomination for her role as a singer in the American film "Morocco" in 1930. In the picture of Joseph von Sternberg, she appeared in an unexpected image - in a man's suit. Even in a tuxedo and trousers, the Kinodive remained incredibly feminine, thereby making a revolution in women's fashion.

After the rise to power of Hitler, Marlene Dietrich refused to cooperate with the propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels and in 1937 defiantly filed documents for American citizenship under the name of Mary Magdalene Sieber.

Marlene Dietrich died of a heart attack on May 6, 1992 in her apartment in Paris. Later, her secretary and girlfriend Norma Bosquet suggested that the 91-year-old actress could commit suicide by taking a lethal dose of sleeping pills. According to the will, she was buried in Berlin.

In 1999, the American Institute of Cinematography put Marlene Dietrich in ninth place on the list of the greatest actresses of classic Hollywood movies.
