Lenovo announced notebooks ThinkPad with a stub for a webcam and USB Type-C

At CES 2018, Lenovo decided to update the ThinkPad line of business notebooks by presenting eight models at once. In novelties, the company replaced the proprietary power connector for the universal USB Type-C port. And especially for those who are concerned about the possibility of hidden surveillance through a webcam, the company added a hardware stub of ThinkShutter to some laptops.

As usual, the most interesting went to the X-series notebooks. 12.5-inch Lenovo ThinkPad X280 became 20% lighter and 15% thinner than its predecessor. Notebook with a thickness of 17.4 mm and weighing 1.13 kg is equipped with an Intel Core i7 processor of the eighth generation, up to 16 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB on SSD. The battery life reaches 16.6 hours, fast battery charging is supported. ThinkShutter also available.

The larger ThinkPad X380 Yoga was left without a stub, but its webcam supports the Windows Hello function. The older 13.3-inch model received similar characteristics, plus the ability to rotate the screen 360 degrees and support the digital Pen Active Pen. The battery provides up to 13.6 hours of operation without recharging.


ThinkPad T580

In the T-series at once three new items: ThinkPad T480s, T480 and T580. They are equipped with eight-generation Intel Core chips, there are configurations with different amount of RAM, hard drives and solid-state drives. In addition to the fingerprint scanner, an infrared camera is also used to enter the system, which can be closed with the ThinkShutter. Among the 14-inch models, the T480s will receive a thinner case, and the 15.6-inch Lenovo ThinkPad T580 can be equipped with a 4K-display and discrete graphics NVIDIA GeForce MX150.

Targeted on corporate users Lenovo ThinkPad L480 and T580 except for new processors Intel received on the second USB Type-C port. ThinkPad L380 Yoga and L380 models with a swivel and conventional 13.3-inch display, respectively, were also presented. All new L-series work up to 12 hours on one charge.
