Even before the official announcement of the Oculus Go virtual reality helmet, rumors circulated that the manufacturer was cooperating with the Chinese Xiaomi. At the CES 2018 exhibition, the head of the VR-unit Facebook Hugo Barra officially confirmed this information and reported new details of the gadget.

All in one

Oculus Go does not require a connection to a powerful computer or smartphone. The device is equipped with its own display with a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels and a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, based on which smart phones LG G6, Xiaomi Mi5s and Google Pixel first generation. A wireless remote control is provided for control.

Production of new items commissioned Xiaomi, and in China, the company will release a special version of the VR-helmet under its own brand - Mi VR Standalone. It has received identical features and compatibility with the Oculus Mobile SDK, and the software will be optimized for Chinese users. For Facebook, whose services are banned in the country, this is an excellent opportunity to gain a foothold in the fastest growing virtual reality market.

When is the release?

As expected, sales of Oculus Go and Xiaomi Mi VR Standalone will begin earlier this year, but the exact date has not yet been announced. The model for the international market was estimated at $ 199. The competitors of the novelty will be future VR helmets for the Google Daydream platform and HTC Vive Focus.
