The Chinese aircraft carrier Shandong, along with J-16 and Su-30 fighter jets, was spotted near Taiwan's border
Military equipment of the People's Liberation Army of China has again been spotted near Taiwan. This time the aircraft carrier Shandong passed near the border of the island state.
Here's What We Know
Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence said the Shandong was spotted off the country's southeastern coast. The Chinese aircraft carrier passed 110 kilometres from the border to take part in a military exercise. The Taiwanese military had only once before recorded the ship in the western Pacific Ocean.
At the same time, 13 warplanes of China's National Liberation Army were in the sky. Among them were fourth-generation J-16 and Su-30 fighters, as well as Shaanxi KJ-500 early warning aircraft. Some of them entered the southwestern air defence identification zone.
A day earlier, twice as many warplanes flew around Taiwan, 11 of which penetrated the air defence identification zone. Also, 13 warships of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy were spotted around the island nation.
