Steeper than Vivo: JDI showed an active screen that recognizes a fingerprint
JDI (Japan Display Inc.) introduced the world's first fingerprint scanner on a glass substrate and capacitive technology. It intends to be used in smartphones, security system scanners and other gadgets, where dactyloscopic sensors are used.
New technology
The latest development of JDI is based on their own Pixel Eyes technology, and also has dimensions of 8 by 8 mm: it is used in the creation of matrices and it is very sensitive to touching. This allowed the company's new solution not just to read the prints, but also to recognize the papillary pattern on the fingers.
Steeper than Vivo
Recently, Vivo introduced a built-in fingerprint scanner based on Synaptics technology. In fact, it's a built-in touch screen scanner. And the JDI technology shown is a new type of display with an active area that recognizes fingerprints.
When to expect
The first major deliveries of new displays JDI will be able to provide no earlier than March 2019. Prior to this, developers are waiting for orders from smartphone manufacturers, but who of them is interested in technology and whether there are any first contracts for delivery is still unknown.
