Google hired former executive producer Sony and Microsoft Phil Harrison as general manager and vice president of the company. This was reported by Phil himself in his microblog on Twitter.

"I'm happy to announce that today I'm starting a new role as vice president and GM at Google and returning to California," Phil wrote.

Who is it

Phil Harrison - the person is not very media, but for his shoulders 15 years as executive producer of Sony and three years at Microsoft.

At Sony Computer Entertainment of America, he was responsible for collaborating with third-party studios to develop games for the PS3. Also, you could see him at the console presentation in 2005, where he showed the famous demo with dashes.

In 2010, he was a consultant in developing the service of cloud gaming Gaikai.

With "melkomyagkimi" he worked only three years as an executive producer, who was supposed to promote the games of Microsoft. In 2015, he left the company and began to run his business.

Why Google Needs It

Google is busy with home devices: Google Home, Chromecast and Nexus Player. The last device was clearly done with the expectation of an audience of gamers, but not updated since 2014. Here is Harrison and can breathe new life into this device.

Own games from Google

It is possible that Harrison can deal with the development of games from Google. I recall that from 1989 to 1992 he worked in Mindscape International as the head of development. During his reign came Prince of Persia, Mad Max, SimAnt and Gods. In Sony, he worked with third-party game developers for the PS3. We can even wait for a full-fledged game department from Google.

Everything can be much trivial

Phil Harrison is a businessman who knows a lot about management and knows how to negotiate. Perhaps he was hired as the most common general manager, who is called to increase the company's profits.
