The iPhone 15 smartphones got a standard USB-C port with no restrictions on third-party accessories
One of the main innovations of smartphones of the iPhone 15 lineup was the USB-C port, which replaced the branded Lightning. There were fears that Apple would try to limit the full-fledged work of unofficial accessories, but they were not confirmed as a result.
Here's What We Know
The fact is that for previous iPhones with a Lightning connector, Apple limited the functionality of some cables and accessories that were not certified under the Made for iPhone (MFI) programme. To do this, the company added a special chip to the ports that recognised third-party accessories.
Some insiders speculated that Apple could do the same with the iPhone 15: for example, limiting the speed of charging and data transfer through uncertified cables. But Ars Technica writes that these rumours have not been confirmed.
So, the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max feature a completely standard USB-C port with no restrictions on cables or accessories. All existing USB cables, chargers and accessories will work fine with the gadgets.
There are still some differences though. iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are limited to USB 2.0 transfer speeds of up to 480 Mbps, while the iPhone 15 Pro models support USB 3 transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps.
