Rumour: Google will support the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro for 7 years

Insider and dataminer @Za_Raczke, following the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro prices, also revealed information about the support timeline for the devices.

So, according to the leak, Google is going to update the new products for seven years. We are talking about seven years of security patches. How many OS updates the devices will receive is still unclear. Presumably, it could be five versions of the "green robot": Android 15, Android 16, Android 17, Android 18 and Android 19. In comparison, the current Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones will receive only three major software updates.

By the way, if the information is confirmed, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will be the first Android devices with such a long support period. For example, Samsung and OPPO promise to update their current flagships for five years: four years of OS updates and five years of security patches.
