Lenovo will check out the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th Gen Ultrabooks due to build problems
Lenovo has discovered a problem in the production of business notebooks ThinkPad X1 Carbon fifth generation and is now launching a program of voluntary service testing of potentially dangerous devices. This is not a recall with product returns, as was the case with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
What happened?
Lenovo went to these measures because of the possible overheating of the laptop battery and the risk of fire. It turned out that in some devices there is not properly secured a cog, which can damage the battery. It all started complaining of users on a strong heat, and the cause was set a few weeks ago. The company adds that there have been no cases of fire and property damage.
Potentially problematic ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th Gen were released between December 2016 and October 2017. These models are numbers 20HQ, 20HR, 20K3 and 20K4. After detecting the problem, the device was scanned at the factory for unnecessary parts inside the case, so Lenovo recommends first checking the serial number on the program website . Perhaps there is no cause for concern.
The inspection is subject to 83 thousand laptops sold in the US and Canada, as well as other devices from the parties that were sold around the world. When you contact the Lenovo service center, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon will be checked and, if necessary, will be repaired free of charge.
At the beginning of the year, at the CES 2018, the manufacturer introduced the sixth generation ThinkPad X1 Carbon.
