Samsung head accused of non-payment of taxes for $ 7.5 million
Do not have time to rest the passions around the release of the vice-president of Samsung Electronics Li Zhe Yong from custody , as his father Li Kun Hee was in the center of another financial scandal. The South Korean police suspect the company's 76-year-old chairman in non-payment of taxes and storage of 400 billion won ($ 368 million) in bank accounts of employees.
What happened?
The materials of the case refer to 260 accounts, issued for 72 high-ranking Samsung managers. They were discovered during an investigation into the misappropriation of the company's funds (about $ 3 million was allegedly used to pay for repairs to the family residence of Lee Kun-hee in Seoul). The police believe that these accounts have been used to evade taxes since the 1990s, but because of expired periods of time, only transactions will be counted between 2007 and 2010. The amount was 8.2 billion Korean won or $ 7.5 million.
Disease
Lee Kun Hee, the third son of the founder of Samsung, is the richest man in South Korea. His fortune is estimated at $ 20 billion. Since 2014, he is in a coma after a heart attack, and the actual leader of Samsung was his son Li Zhe Yong.
Even if Li Kun-hee is found guilty, he will be released from serving his sentence for health reasons. In 2009, the company's head was also convicted in a tax evasion case, but received a presidential pardon.
