Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have become the first smartphones on the market to be updated for 7 years

Google announced a new support programme for its devices during a presentation on October 4.

Here's What We Know

So, starting with the flagships Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, the American manufacturer is extending the period of device updates. We are talking about 7 years of support: 7 years of security patches, 7 years of OS updates and 7 years of Feature Drop updates. That is, new Google smartphones are guaranteed to receive fresh firmware until 2030. That's currently a record in the market.

For example, Samsung and OPPO promise to update their current flagships for five years: four years of OS updates and five years of security patches.
