The standard "Phone" application for Google smartphones is constantly catching up with innovations. At the same time, the application interface has not changed for years and is already outdated. Google decided to fix this flaw and started with ease of use.

What is known

The application has not been radically changed, but this is only a test run. To start, Google changed the navigation bar. Prior to that, "Speed Dial", "Call history" and "Contacts" were at the top of the screen, now they were moved to the bottom and added "Voice messages". This arrangement is convenient if you use your smartphone with one hand.

Update not for everyone

The update is available to owners of Google smartphones - Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. To install the updated "dialer", you need to dance with a tambourine and set Root-rights.

Step 1

Download the latest version of the application from the Play Market. Open the file manager and go to /data/data/com.google.android.dialer/shared_prefs. In the folder you will find an XML file containing application settings. Open dialer_phenotype_flags.xml with the previously loaded text editor and look for the nui flag. Change the value to false to true, and save the XML file.

Step 2

For the changes to take effect, you will have to close the application forcibly. Open "Settings", click "Applications" and select "Phone" in the list of installed applications. Force it to stop.

Step 3

Now start the application and click the button with three dots in the search bar. Select "Create new user interface shortcut", press and hold the icon or tap "Add automatic". On the main screen of your phone, tap the new shortcut, and you'll see the experimental user interface of Google Phone with the bottom panel.
