The company Bullitt, responsible for the release of smartphones under the brand Caterpillar, announced a protected device CAT S61. The flagship of the line comes in the place of the 2016 CAT S60 model, the review of which can be found on our website.

What's new?

The smartphone received a new FLIR thermal chamber with an extended range of measured temperatures from -20 to 400 ° C (in the predecessor - up to 120 ° C). In addition, the resolution of the thermal imager has increased from VGA to HD. Also, a laser rangefinder appeared to measure the distance to 10 meters, and this information can be saved together with a photo taken on the main camera.

Another innovation was the VOC humidity and volatile organic compound sensor. CAT S61 will check the air every 30 seconds and notify the user if the concentration of hazardous substances increases. This function is useful to those who work with paints, cleaning agents or solvents.

The previous apparatus was able to withstand a depth of 5 meters, but for this purpose it was necessary to turn the mechanical switches. In the CAT S61 from this design decided to abandon. Declared protection under the standards of MIL-STD-810G and IP68. The body can withstand falls from a height of 3 meters and immersion in water (including salted water) to a depth of 1.8 meters for an hour.

The gadget is equipped with a 5.2-inch Full HD-screen, covered with Gorilla Glass 5 glass. It supports glove control and recognizes touches with wet fingers. The heart of the smartphone was the eight-core Snapdragon 630 processor, 4 GB of RAM, built-in - 64 GB with the ability to expand microSD cards. The main 16-megapixel camera can shoot 4K-video. The front module is 8 megapixels.

The dimensions of the CAT S61 are 148.35x73.4x7.99 mm with a weight of 163 grams. Inside is a 4500 mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging via a symmetrical USB Type-C port. The operating system is Android 8.0 Oreo, the manufacturer also promises to upgrade to Android P in the future.

And how much does it cost?

CAT S61 improved almost on all fronts, but the price bites - for a smartphone asking 900 euros. CAT S60 at the start cost 650 euros.
