Xiaomi Mi Note 3 became the first smartphone of the line with support for face recognition, and now this feature appeared in Chinese firmware for the flagship Xiaomi Mi 6 and "frameless" Mi Mix 2.

How it works?

Xiaomi does not yet have advanced sensors like the True Depth system in the iPhone X, and the face scanner uses a conventional front camera. This implementation is inferior to the reliability of the fingerprint scanner, and in the dark, the function is of little use, but when the conditions are right, it looks like magic.

By the way, in the global stable version of MIUI 9 there is no face recognition even on Xiaomi Mi Note 3. After the first firmware, the function was sent for revision, and so far it is only available in builds for developers. Apparently, trained in the photos of Asians, the Xiaomi neural networks did not distinguish between people of European appearance. This topic is old as the world .

But when the system can be brought to mind, in addition to the "laptop" the face scanner will receive at least two more smartphones of the company. It's curious how this will work on Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, whose front camera is under the screen.
