Google will have to pay more than $1 million to an employee who accused the company of gender discrimination

Google has lost a lawsuit and now has to pay its female employee $1.15 million dollars.

Here's What We Know

Google Cloud CTO Ulku Rowe accused the company of gender discrimination. She stated that in 2017, she was hired for a lower and less paid position, while men with less experience were hired for similar positions. She was also not promoted in favour of a less qualified male colleague, whereas Rowe had over 23 years of professional experience.

This comes nearly 5 years after a major strike by Google employees demanding a change in the company's approach to sexual harassment and discrimination. Rowe's lawsuit is the first such case Google has faced since the protests.

As a result, the court decided that Google had indeed committed sex discrimination, so the company must now pay the accuser $1.15 million.
