The first details of the weekly games sales chart in the UK: Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is the leader, and the release is the fourth most successful of 2023

Christopher Dring, author of GamesIndustry.biz, has shared the first details of the weekly UK games sales chart. The full statistics should be available by Tuesday, but we already know how Marvel's Spider-Man 2 performed.

Here's What We Know

So far, we know only about physical copies, but Spider-Man 2 is at the top of the UK chart. It is the fourth biggest launch of this year in the UK after The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, EA Sports FC 24 and Hogwarts Legacy. However, the physical version of the superhero title sold 20% lower than God of War Ragnarok on release, although Ragnarok had a PS4 and PS5 version.

Christopher added that Marvel's Spider-Man 2018 also sold better on release than the sequel, but conclusions will need to be drawn only when data on digital versions are available, as sales may be better here.

Super Mario Bros Wonder took the second place on the chart. This is the fifth largest physical launch in 2023. Sales are 62% lower than Zelda on release, but 2D Mario games tend to sell in the long run.
