Fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II fighters of the Finnish Air Force will receive AGM-88G AARGM-ER extended-range anti-radar missiles
Finland is close to ordering 150 air-to-ground missiles designed to defeat enemy radars. The potential sale has been approved by the US State Department.
Here's What We Know
Finland has requested the purchase of 150 AGM-88G AARGM-ER (Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missiles-Extended Range) extended range anti-radar missiles. The potential deal will be considered by the US Congress within a month.
In addition to the AGM-88G AARGM-ER, the deal also includes mock-up missiles for training, missile containers, spare parts, documentation and related equipment.
The AARGM-ER received the WAU-7/B fragmentation warhead, which weighs 70kg and has nearly 13,000 tungsten elements. The Finnish Air Force will be able to arm fifth-generation F-35A Lightning II fighters with the new anti-radar missiles. The European country decided almost two years ago to purchase 64 aircraft from Lockheed Martin.
