Qualcomm's next flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip will get advanced artificial intelligence capabilities.

Here's What We Know

According to leaked marketing materials, the chip will be able to remove objects from videos, expand areas in photos, and create fake backgrounds using AI models. It will also be possible to run AI models like Stable Diffusion and Llama from Meta on Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 devices.

This will be possible thanks to the updated Hexagon neural processor, which is 98 per cent faster than last year's version. Qualcomm previously showed off the capabilities of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with the Stable Diffusion model.

In addition to AI improvements, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 promises a 30 per cent increase in CPU performance and 25 per cent increase in GPU performance, support for 240fps gaming, improved ray tracing and other innovations including night video capture.

The chip is expected to first appear in Samsung's Galaxy S24 line of smartphones in early 2024. It will also be used in other flagship Android smartphones other than Google's Pixel with its own Tensor chips.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is expected to be officially announced on 24 October at the Snapdragon Summit event.
