Samsung Galaxy S9 + under the scalpel iFixit: what's new in the camera?

Sales of Samsung Galaxy S9 + will begin only by the end of the week, but the Korean flagship has already been in the hands of specialists iFixit. Inside the smartphone there were not many differences compared to its predecessor, but now we know how the new camera with a variable aperture is arranged.

What did they tell?

As the basic 12-megapixel module works, it becomes clear right after removing the glass back cover. In camera lenses, a diaphragm with five or more lobes is usually used for a more rounded hole in the entire range of aperture values. In the Samsung Galaxy S9 +, the camera switches only between the f / 1.5 and f / 2.4 positions, and the manufacturer limited itself to two petals.

Otherwise, the design resembles other Samsung flagships, but it's not very good. Having no experience in disassembling smartphones, even when the case is opened, it's easy to damage the display and fingerprint scanner trails. In iFixit easily got the battery of the smartphone thanks to a special solution for removing the glue, but without it you would have to warm up the case several times. From the positive moments - most of the smartphone components are modular, and they can be relatively easily replaced.

What is the verdict?

The maintainability of Samsung Galaxy S9 + was rated at 4 points out of 10 - as in its time Galaxy S8 and S8 +. Disadvantages, too, were inherited from the previous generation. So, the glass case is quite difficult to open. If the front glass breaks in the smartphone, it will be easier to replace the entire display module than to try to separate the AMOLED panel.
