Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will allow you to run Llama 2 and Stable Diffusion right on your smartphone
Qualcomm
Qualcomm's new flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset will bring generative artificial intelligence capabilities directly to smartphones, significantly speeding up processing compared to cloud-based solutions.
Here's What We Know
The chipset supports Meta's Llama 2-based chatbot, as well as the Stable Diffusion image generator, which now creates pictures in less than a second. In comparison, on the previous Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 it took 15 seconds.
AI capabilities are realised in the Hexagon neural processor and the Sensing Hub module, which uses speech recognition from OpenAI. The Hub also feeds the AI with information about the user for personalisation.
Generative AI will also be in Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for image processing. It supports generative fill for image enlargement, which will allow you to zoom in and out of photos right on the device.
There will be a feature to erase objects in videos. To do this, just tap and the unwanted object will disappear.
The chip also supports Vlogger's View, which allows you to combine video from the front and main cameras into one view. It's not picture-in-picture, the feature uses improved image segmentation to remove the background from selfie videos. This creates the effect that the user is standing in front of what the rear camera sees.
To protect the content from spoofing, Qualcomm is partnering with Truepic. The technology it uses will allow metadata to be embedded in photos or videos to ensure their authenticity.
