The US Department of Justice has issued a subpoena to Tesla demanding information about its Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD) systems.
What's known
This comes after the DOJ requested documents about these Tesla autonomous driving technologies earlier this year. The company said it also received a request for data about personal benefits and personnel decisions.
Experts say the issuance of the subpoena means the agency believes Tesla's response is incomplete. The company acknowledged that the investigation could damage its reputation and business.
Tesla is under investigation on several fronts, including reports of autopilot crashes and claims about autonomous cars that are untrue.
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has previously investigated Autopilot and FSD systems after Tesla crashes with emergency services.
