Google has added an "About this image" feature to Search that provides contextual information about any photo on the web.

Here's What We Know

To use the feature, you need to select an image in Google Search and click on the three dots in the right corner. The tool then shows the date the image was published, the history of its appearance on the web, and how it is described on different sites.

The company believes this will help identify photos taken out of context to spread misinformation.

The function also determines whether the image was generated by artificial intelligence. Original content creators must add relevant metadata when doing so. Google has promised to always add such information to images created with its AI models.

Another new feature, Fact Check Explorer for journalists, will now also work with images, not just text. Google also unveiled a tool that generates descriptions of obscure websites based on artificial intelligence.
