Announcement of Fitbit Versa: "smart" watches for everyone

Fitbit introduced another "full" smart watch Versa. Unlike the first model Fitbit Ionic, the novelty received a universal design without angular shapes. He does not shout about fitness, and therefore will be able to interest a wider audience.

What kind of beast?

Fitbit Versa is equipped with a 1.34-inch square display with a maximum brightness of 1000 cd / m2 for good visibility in all lighting conditions. This is the thinnest clock in the line with a thickness of 11.2 mm, in addition, the metal case can withstand immersion in water to a depth of 50 meters. On the back there is a heart rate monitor and other sensors (here everything is identical to Ionic, only the location has changed). It supports the measurement of oxygen saturation level (SpO2) and sleep tracking, in addition, the gadget recognizes more than 15 types of activity.

The manufacturer does not report the technical characteristics of smart-watches, but they are faster than the previous model. Now, in notifications of new messages, you can immediately send a quick response from the custom templates. Alas, due to limitations iOS function works only with Android-smartphones. Especially for the fair sex added a women's calendar. The function of a personal trainer now allows you to evaluate classes, and if the proposed program does not allow you to put it to the full, the system will increase the workload.

Of 4 GB of internal memory, 2.5 GB are available to download 300 tracks from the music service Deezer (or Pandora in the US). Thus, the user can leave the smartphone at home. True, the device may be needed to track the route - Fitbit Versa does not have its own GPS module. The manufacturer promises up to four days of work on one charge. In Europe, the model will be sold with NFC and payment system Fitbit Pay, and in the US such a modification will be slightly more expensive than the basic version.

Question price

Fitbit Versa will go on sale in April for $ 200. The version with the support of contactless payments will cost 200 euros, and in the USA it will be sold in the form of Fitbit Versa Special Edition with exclusive woven straps. In the standard model, they are silicone (sold separately $ 30 / € 30), you can also buy a leather version ($ 50 / € 60) and metal bracelets for $ 80-100 or euro.

This is more like a competitor to Apple Watch (from $ 250 for the Series 1 model). Fitbit Versa reminds a little of the first Pebble Time Steel, and, perhaps, they will even be able to attract former users of "pebbles." For us the main problem in the novelty is the lack of support for Cyrillic fonts. The same problems were with Pebble, but users could relatively easily Russify the watch. "Repair" Fitbit OS craftsmen have not yet been successful, but the company's developers hinted at possible support for the Cyrillic alphabet in the future.
