Saudi Arabia used Patriot to help the destroyer USS Carney shoot down missiles fired by Iranian proxies
Last week the destroyer USS Carney (DDG 64) shot down several missiles over the Red Sea. As it turned out, it was assisted by a Patriot system.
Here's What We Know
The Iranian-backed Husseinians from Yemen have fired 2,000 kilometre-range rockets and drones towards Israel. In nine hours, the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer intercepted 15 drones and four cruise missiles.
As it became known later, not four but five cruise missiles were launched from Yemen. Another one was destroyed by Saudi Arabia using the US MIM-104 Patriot air defence system.
US Defence Department spokesman Brigadier General Pat Ryder said there was no evidence that the launches were ordered by Iranian authorities. At the same time, a senior official, on condition of anonymity, said the US was holding Iran responsible.
