Google invests $2bn in OpenAI competitor Anthropic

Google has agreed to invest up to $2bn in startup Anthropic, developer of chatbot Claude 2. Anthropic was founded by former OpenAI executives.
Here's What We Know
According to an Anthropic spokesperson, this is an upfront injection of $500m and a further $1.5bn to be invested over time.
The main competitor of Claude 2 is OpenAI's ChatGPT. The Anthropic chatbot is already used by companies such as Slack, Notion and Quora.
Unlike ChatGPT, Claude 2 can summarise up to 75,000 words of text. An independent study has shown that this chatbot is the most reliable in determining the boundaries of its knowledge.
Google already invested $300 million in Anthropic in April, and the startup raised another $450 million in May.
