Born to win: Samsung's folded smartphone is now called Winner
Since 2015, Samsung has been working on a smartphone with a flexible display Project Valley, but recently the project was renamed to Winner. According to the Korean edition of The Bell, the name change is related to the preparation for the release of the gadget next year.
What did they tell?
According to sources, Samsung has already agreed on the beginning of supplies of components in November. On average, the production of the new smartphone takes about three months, which means that the presentation of the bent device (Galaxy X?) Can be held at the next World Mobile Congress MWC 2019.
Most likely, in the final version, "Winner" will be similar to the prototypes shown behind closed doors at CES 2018 in January. Gadgets could be folded in half with a screen inside, but instead of a flexible panel Samsung used two 3.5-inch OLED-displays. On the outside of the case there is a third 3.5-inch screen, and in the unfolded state the device is approaching the format of a 7-inch tablet. The main thing is that there should not be a thick black strip in the middle, like the ZTE Axon M.
Rare Bird
Samsung planned the release of 30 000 to 500 000 folding smartphones, although initially it was about at least a few million. The company chose a more cautious approach to assess the demand for a new form factor.
For comparison, Samsung sells more than 50 million flagships of Galaxy S and Galaxy Note lines per year.
