Games Workshop and Amazon are gearing up to launch the Warhammer 40,000 film universe with Henry Cavill
Games Workshop has finally broken its year-long silence on the long-awaited Warhammer 40,000 film universe starring Henry Cavill for Amazon, stating that the project is in the active development phase.
Here's What We Know
A year after Amazon Studios announced it had acquired the rights to Warhammer 40,000 and plans to launch a "Warhammer universe" with Henry Cavill as executive producer and star, Games Workshop has finally confirmed a "full contract" with Amazon, noting that the project is ready "for the next phase."
Warhammer 40,000 is Games Workshop's sci-fi universe, which is the backdrop for its hugely popular tabletop war game featuring iconic space marinas. It's a dark universe in which humanity survives in the face of horrific threats inside and outside the fascist Imperium.
Apparently Games Workshop and Amazon, along with Henry Cavill, are currently working out the storylines for Warhammer 40,000, developing the first script and preparing to begin production. It remains unclear for now whether the project should start as a film or TV show. Games Workshop stresses that they may decide to realise both formats first:
"All we can tell you right now is that an elite band of screenwriters, each with their own particular passion for Warhammer, is being assembled to help bring the setting and characters you love to the screen". - Games Workshop's blog states. - "This illustrious group will be championed by Henry Cavill, who stands ready to take his place as executive producer – bringing his pen, sword and/or spear to the project."
Yes, the news is great, especially for fans of the game, but still, you'll have to be patient, as Games Workshop said that it will most likely take a few years before something is on the screen once the contracts are signed. They've also promised to keep fans updated and assured that they'll provide all the latest updates and interesting snippets as soon as they can.
