Japanese researchers create Dragon Firefighter fire robot that looks like a flying dragon and flies on water jets

Japanese researchers from the Tadokoro Laboratory at Tohoku University have made significant progress in the development of a firefighting robot, which has been given the fancy name Dragon Firefighter. The technology combines elements of fantasy and science fiction and is designed to reduce fires from a height. The flying dragon uses a unique mechanism that controls water jets to effectively extinguish fires.

With the help of eight water jets, this flying robot is able to rise into the air. It can change its shape, approach the fire and precisely direct the water jets at the fire. The flying dragon is controlled by a command unit located on fire trucks with a 14,000-litre water tank capable of generating water pressure of up to one megapascal. In addition, a thermal imaging camera is mounted on the tip of the hose, which allows for effective fire location.

The researchers plan to improve the robot, extend its range beyond 10 metres and develop new firefighting tactics using the unique capabilities of this robot. The scientists also need to solve the problem of plastic deformation of hoses and electrical cables under the influence of heat from the fire.

According to the developers, the full implementation of the firefighter robot in practical work may take up to 10 years. During this time, it is planned to improve the technology and find optimal solutions for extinguishing fires. Further work on this technology is an extremely important task that will help protect lives and property in the event of fires.
