The former head of Google, Eric Schmidt, is pushing for the deployment of kamikaze drones controlled by artificial intelligence in Ukraine.

Here's What We Know

Eric Schmidt founded White Stork, a startup named after one of Ukraine's symbols. According to a Forbes report, this startup will produce low-cost kamikaze drones with artificial intelligence. They will use AI for visual guidance and will be able to operate even with GPS jamming. The company plans to supply these drones to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

There is very little information about White Stork, but according to media reports, another former Google employee Sebastian Thrun has joined the team.

Since pitching the startup, Schmidt has been calling for increased drone deliveries to Ukraine. After a few months of training, he said, soldiers would be able to operate drones that fly so fast that they are nearly impossible to shoot down. These drones carry small amounts of explosives and cost only about $400 per unit.

Schmidt recently wrote another article in Foreign Relations titled "Ukraine is losing the drone war." He argues that Ukraine and its allies need to invest in developing and scaling technologies that can stand up to Russian drones. He predicts that Ukraine will need at least 2 million drones in 2024, with only half produced domestically.

Neither Eric Schmidt himself nor White Stork representatives have yet commented on this information.
