WhatsApp will soon allow sending high-quality media files by default
Despite being one of the most popular messengers in the world, WhatsApp has not been the fastest in providing new features. For example, the ability to send HD media files was not available on the app until August last year. That said, support for sharing high-definition images came first, followed by HD video a few days later. However, WhatsApp does not allow users to send HD images or videos by default. Instead, it requires users to tap the HD icon in the image editor and change the quality each time. But that might change soon, according to the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android.
Here's What We Know
The WhatsApp 2.24.5.6 beta includes a new option in the app's storage settings that lets you change the default quality of media downloads, WABetaInfo reports. Currently, when you go to Settings > Storage & Data, WhatsApp for Android has several options such as Manage Storage, a network usage indicator, a toggle to use less data for calls, and proxy settings. This is followed by a section for automatic media downloads.
But this new beta update contains another special section called Media Quality, which allows users to change the media upload quality for each new image and video. By default, the quality is set to standard, which saves disc space. However, if you are not concerned about storage and want to send all photos and videos in HD quality, this option will save you from having to click the HD icon on the media editor screen every time.
The media upload quality control feature is still under development and will be available in a future update to the app.
