The fantastic future is here: Lenovo has unveiled the transparent ThinkBook laptop
Lenovo is a regular participant of trade shows and at MWC 2024 the company also presented several new products. Perhaps the most notable discovery was a conceptual ThinkBook laptop with a transparent display.
Here's What We've Seen
So, this concept features a 17.3-inch transparent microLED screen (1000 nits) and a transparent virtual keyboard. The latter can also transform into a virtual drawing board using a supported stylus. The company also hinted at augmented reality scenarios thanks to the transparent display. Specifically, the brand said that the screen allows you to interact with physical objects and overlay digital information to create user-generated content. But it's not entirely clear yet whether this is just a marketing ploy or a viable feature.
Summarising these screen features, it's not entirely clear how privacy will be handled. For example, whether outsiders will be able to see what's happening on the laptop's screen by looking through the back panel. I wonder if the manufacturer has taken this point into account.
Nevertheless, it's still just a concept and not something that can actually be bought right now. The technology will likely still be refined. Still, it should be noted that microLED screens are extremely expensive, so a future laptop with this innovation could be quite an expensive proposition.
