Google TV got a redesigned home screen with round icons and more
A few months after Google TV first announced external changes to the platform, it has released a new homescreen design that adds round shaped icons for apps and a few other changes.
Here's What We Know
Announced on Google's support forums, the Google TV home screen redesign brings several changes, starting with app icons. As announced last year, the app icons on Google TV now appear as circles. They are smaller than the existing rectangles and this also means that the number of apps displayed will now increase.
Apart from this, more importantly, the "Your Apps" bar is also getting other changes. Now, in the new design of the Google TV home screen, you can easily change the order of apps using a dedicated button for this feature without having to go through multiple items as was the case before. There's also a new "add apps" button that will apparently be used to install new apps, though it's not clear if it connects to the Play Store or just opens the "Apps" tab.
Finally, Google is also adding a shortcut for free TV channels right in the "Your Apps" bar. Instead of just putting these channels in the "Live" tab, a new shortcut app will be available for the "Your Apps" bar.
Google says this Google TV homescreen redesign will start rolling out starting today and will be available for all devices over the next few months.
