Raytheon has completed testing of a new long-range AMRAAM-ER missile for the NASAMS air defence system.
Here's What We Know
In addition to the US company, the work was carried out with the Norwegian corporation Konsberg and the Norwegian Ministry of Defence. As a result, NASAMS will now be able to shoot down air targets up to 60 kilometres away. However, for everything to work, the engine and guidance system had to be improved.
ZBiAM notes that the development, testing and integration of AMRAAM-ER took several years.
To date, only two buyer countries - Hungary and Qatar - have the ability to use NASAMS with the new long-range AMRAAM-ER. They have ordered the delivery of the Block III version of this SAM.
