HARMAN, maker of popular audio brand JBL, has launched an anti-counterfeit JBL campaign in India. The Samsung Electronics subsidiary said it has started legal action against manufacturers, distributors, dealers and retailers involved in selling or manufacturing counterfeit JBL products.

Here's What We Know

The raid, conducted in conjunction with law enforcement agencies, resulted in the seizure of 54 counterfeit JBL car speakers from car accessory shops. HARMAN has reiterated its determination to combat illegal sales and has issued advice on how to identify counterfeit JBL products.

The company advises customers to beware of overly cheap JBL products with deteriorated quality. It also points out inconsistency in cosmetic details as a sign of a fake product compared to a genuine JBL gadget. The packaging and the genuine JBL logo are also a way of identifying counterfeit products. Genuine JBL products have high-quality packaging with the exact placement and colour of the logo, according to the company. In addition, counterfeit JBL products may appear light, have a chemical odour or show signs of poor quality in general.

Vikram Kher, vice president, Lifestyle at HARMAN India, said that the company is taking strict legal action against those involved in selling these counterfeit products. He also stressed on the importance of vigilance of JBL customers and urged them to buy products only from authorised retailers.

The investigation is ongoing and will be a regular activity to curb the sale of such products across India. There is no indication yet that anyone has been arrested, but the counterfeiting problem could be widespread in India.
