Samsung SDI plans to release batteries for next-generation electric vehicles in 2027

Samsung SDI, Samsung's battery division, has announced its plans to mass produce solid state batteries (ASB) by 2027. These batteries are considered safer and more efficient than the traditional lithium-ion batteries used in most electric vehicles.

ASBs are filled with solid electrolyte, which reduces the risk of fire and increases range. Samsung SDI has already started a pilot line for ASBs at its R&D centre in Suwon, South Korea. Prototype samples are currently being produced at this facility, which has the industry's highest density of 900 watt-hours per litre.

The company is also working on a battery that can last more than 20 years by 2029. Samsung SDI intends to lead the global electric vehicle battery market due to its technological superiority.
