The Bulgarian Ministry of Defence has begun preparations to supply 110 Soviet BTR-60 armoured personnel carriers to Ukraine.

Here's What We Know

The first six vehicles have already left the base of the General Directorate of the Gendarmerie in Sofia for the railway station in Novi Iskir. It is noted that the armoured personnel carriers will be transferred to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

The delivery of these 110 APCS-60s was announced last summer, but Bulgarian President Rumen Radev vetoed the decision. However, later, thanks to a vote in the National Assembly, the transfer was approved.

In November 2023, Bulgaria did ratify an intergovernmental agreement agreeing on the transfer of decommissioned armoured personnel carriers. At the same time, the country claimed that it could have transferred the vehicles without ratification last autumn.

By the way, this is the first time that Bulgaria has transferred military aid to Ukraine without intermediaries.
