Russian hackers continue to try to infiltrate Microsoft
Russian state-sponsored hackers known as Midnight Blizzard continue to try to infiltrate Microsoft. They have attempted to gain access to the source code and other internal systems of the company, as reported in the Microsoft blog.
Here's What We Know
These attacks on Microsoft occurred after government agents tried to access the emails of the company's executives last November. An internal investigation confirmed that both attacks were carried out by Russian hackers from the Midnight Blizzard group.
Microsoft notified the US Securities and Exchange Commission of the attack. The corporation confirmed that the hackers are likely to use the obtained email addresses to gain access to internal systems.
The Midnight Blizzard group is directly linked to Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) and operates under the direction of Vladimir Putin. The group is allegedly behind the cyberattacks on the Democratic National Committee in 2016 and on the software company SolarWinds in 2020, which led to the hacking of government networks.
