The sequel to Super Mario Bros. Movie will officially be released in 2026
Following the success of the film Super Mario Bros. 2023, Nintendo and Illumination have announced a second animated film based on the franchise, expected to be released on 3 April 2026.
Here's What We Know
The information comes from series creator Shigeru Miyamoto, who tweeted this from the Nintendo of America account in celebration of Mario Day.
No details have been revealed yet, but Miyamoto says the team is "thinking about expanding Mario's world and having a colourful and fun story." It won't be a direct sequel to the first film, he says, though that remains to be seen. Illumination's Chris Meledandri said the team is already "storyboarding scenes and designing sets for the new environments." Animation should begin shortly.
The first Super Mario Bros. film grossed $1.3 billion worldwide.
