Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 leak: Qualcomm's new chipset could surpass the performance of Apple's A18 Pro
Snapdragon chip maker Qualcomm is gradually closing the performance gap with Apple's A-series chipsets. According to new rumours, the next Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip will be faster than the A18 that will be used in the iPhone 16.
Here's What We Know
A new rumour from South Korea claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will outperform the Apple A18 in benchmark tests. According to the leak, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is expected to achieve a single-core score of 3500, while the A18 is unlikely to exceed 3300. It is also claimed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will perform better in the multi-core test and its GPU will also be faster.
Qualcomm has already confirmed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be unveiled in October. This advanced chip will feature Oryon cores that will give it an edge over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Unlike the recent chips that used licensed Arm cores, the Oryon cores are suit Arm cores and were developed by Qualcomm. Nuvia, which Qualcomm acquired in 2021, initially started working on the new cores to better compete with Apple. Supposedly, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will also be Qualcomm's first 3-nanometre chip.
However, it's worth noting that this data should be taken with a certain amount of scepticism, as the leak also claims that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 main core could be overclocked to 4.3GHz, which isn' t currently possible for smartphones.
