According to recent news, Samsung Display is working on Micro OLED and OLEDoS panels for mixed reality headsets. However, according to Samsung Display's CEO, Choi Joo-sun, it will still be some time before Micro OLED panels hit the market.

Here's What We Know

Choi Joo-sun said that the Micro OLED market will reach maturity in 3-4 years. He shared this information while speaking to reporters and students at the Korea Advanced Institute of Technology (KAIST) in Daejeon, South Korea on 6 March 2024. He also added that the Micro OLED market will mature earlier than the Micro LED market.

Over the next 2-3 years, Samsung Display plans to focus its efforts on keeping up with the Micro OLED market and introducing competitive solutions compared to its competitors. As part of these efforts, Samsung Display acquired US-based eMagin for $218 million last year.

Samsung Display is also actively recruiting talents from local universities to work on Micro OLED. This is the second time Choi Joo-sun has personally given a lecture at a university. In November 2023, he held a special lecture at Seoul National University, where he himself once studied, to attract talents.
