Twitch is shutting down the service that allowed organising parties to watch content from Prime Video.

Flashback

Watch parties are a feature that allows Twitch users to watch content from the Prime Video service in real time with their viewers. During watch parties, users can start streaming a film, series, or other video from the Amazon Prime Video catalogue, and their viewers can watch the content at the same time as them and chat.

This feature allowed for virtual parties for friends and fans who couldn't be together physically, but could enjoy watching the content together and discuss it in a chat.

Here's What We Know

"Watch parties, which became available to all users in 2019, will be removed from the platform on 2 April. Representatives of Amazon, the owner of Twitch, claim that the popularity of this feature has declined significantly in recent years. According to Twitch, there has been a decline in interest in Prime Video parties over the years, especially after the end of the COVID-19 quarantine restrictions.

Such parties have become a popular way to connect with friends and have fun during self-isolation. However, with the resumption of normal social activities, such as going to the cinema or restaurants, interest in this feature has begun to decline.
