Judging by the statement of Trevor Roth, CEO of Roddenberry Entertainment, in the "very near future" we are waiting for more films from the world of Star Trek.

Here's What We Know

During his appearance at the SXSW festival, Roth reassured fans of the Star Trek franchise by stating that the "plan" for a fourth film is already in place. He noted that confidentiality is required at this time, but was able to share Paramount's plans for the Star Trek universe and the process of making Star Trek 4, clarifying that the new film is expected to be released "in the near future."

"I am not able to say much, but I can say that it is Paramount's intent to figure out the Star Trek side of movies and what's going on there. There's every intent of a new movie coming out in the very near future. There's a lot of secrecy around what's going to happen there. But there is a plan getting into place. And we're very excited to see it return to the big screen.".

"Star Trek 4 has been in the works since 2016. And while Roth expresses hope for a speedy release of the fourth, he admits that sometimes "practicalities" can be an obstacle and noted that during the creation process, things sometimes don't go according to plan.

In addition to Star Trek 4, Paramount plans to further develop the franchise at the box office following the successful release of the Star Trek series on Paramount+. The studio is currently working on several projects, including an original film with a story set "decades ago" from the rebooted J.J. Abrams universe, which Andor series director Toby Haynes plans to direct.

When We Can Expect It

It's still unclear when "Star Trek 4" will be released or even who will be in the cast, but the continued work is an important indicator to the fact that the film will still see the light of day.
