The Spanish government has signed a contract with the German concern Rheinmetall to supply nearly 100,000 155mm artillery shells.

Here's What We Know

The deal is worth approximately €208 million and the ammunition is to be delivered to the Spanish army between the end of 2024 and the end of 2025, with a two-year extension.

These are ER02A1 high-explosive fragmentation projectiles, which in a typical version have a range of up to 30 km and with a base-bleed generator up to 40 km. The ammunition will be manufactured by the Spanish industry, namely Expal Systems, which Rheinmetall bought for €1.2 billion last November.

It is worth noting that Rheinmetall is also expanding its capacity in Germany. For example, in February this year, the company opened a plant in Unterluss, Lower Saxony, which will produce explosives and components for rocket artillery.
