Here's What We Know

An Indiana jury has partially found the electric vehicle manufacturer and its employee liable for a 2017 accident between a Ford truck and a motorcyclist

Tesla and its employee Kyle Kashuba must pay the victim Christopher Dugan more than $42 million. The jury ruled that Dugan was 30% responsible for the accident and reduced the amount of compensation from $60 million to $42 million.

The accident occurred when the employee was driving a Ford car owned by Tesla. Dugan was driving in the right lane when Kashuba crashed into the motorcycle because he wanted to turn. The company's lawyers argued that the victim should have been paying close attention to the truck's movement, as the Ford driver simply could not see him.
