Uber has agreed to compensate USD 178 million to thousands of taxi drivers in Australia who allegedly lost profits due to the company's entry into the local market.

Here's What We Know

Uber lawyers settled a lawsuit filed by more than 8000 taxi drivers. It is noted that this is the fifth largest payment in the history of Australia. The company said in a statement that it has made a "significant contribution" to compensation programmes in Australian states since 2018. And also that with the latest payment, this problem is finally a thing of the past.

It's worth noting that Uber has had disputes with taxi drivers in many countries. In December, it won a lawsuit signed by 2,500 French workers against it. A Paris court ruled that the company had not committed any acts of unfair competition.
