Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3: a processor for low-cost flagship smartphones
Qualcomm, as promised, announced a new flagship series processor at an event on 18 March.
Here's What We Know
The novelty was named Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. The chip was a simplified version of the SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It is built on the same 4-nanometre process and boasts a Cortex-X4 main core at 3.0 GHz, four performance cores at 2.8 GHz and three efficient cores at 2.0 GHz. In comparison, the maximum frequency of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 cores reaches 3.4 GHz. In addition, the processors differ in the configuration of cores (1+4+3 for Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and 1+5+2 for Snapdragon 8 Gen 3) and graphics (Adreno 735, instead of Adreno 750).
The novelty supports up to 24GB of LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. The USB 3.1 Gen 2 (USB-C) standard is used for connectivity. Also, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 received a Snapdragon X70 5G 5G modem, instead of Snapdragon X75 5G. The processor supports Wi-Fi 7, cameras up to 200 MP, displays up to QHD+ resolution and up to 240 Hz, and generative AI.
When We Can Expect It
Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 will appear in low-cost flagship smartphones from Honor, iQOO, realme, Redmi and Xiaomi. The first novelties will hit the market in the near future.
