Stable 4K at 60 fps: an insider has revealed the capabilities of the new PSSR scaling technology that will debut on PlayStation 5 Pro
Insiders Tom Henderson and Moore's Law Is Dead are actively sharing technical details of the intermediate generation console PlayStation 5 Pro.
A few days ago, Moore' s Law Is Dead was the first to report that Sony will replace AMD's FSR 2 image scaling technology with its own analogue PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling) in the new device, which will provide a boost in performance and graphics quality.
Today, Tom Henderson expanded on his information.
Here's What We Know
According to Henderson's sources, PSSR technology will allow games to run in the following configurations:
- on the PS5 Pro: in 4K resolution at 60 fps or 8K resolution at 30 fps;
- on the next-generation console (PS6): in 4K at 120 fps or 8K at 60 fps.
In internal documentation for developers and partners, Sony provides the following examples of PS5 Pro modes:
Game 1:
- Base PS5 - Performance mode (1080p at 60 fps) or Quality mode (1800p at 30 fps);
- PS5 Pro - 1440p at 60 fps (using PSSR).
Game 2:
- PS5 base PS5 - 60 fps without ray tracing;
- PS5 Pro - 60 fps with ray tracing.
As you can see from this data, Sony does intend to significantly increase the performance of its gaming platform to provide users with a better experience for even the most demanding games.
Most likely, PlayStation 5 Pro will be a "testing ground" for PSSR technology, and it will only truly reveal itself on the next generation console.
When We Can Expect It
Insiders and analysts agree that the sale of the PlayStation 5 Pro console will start shortly before the Christmas holidays.
