Apple to be sued for violation of antitrust laws
The US Department of Justice has accused Apple of violating antitrust laws by allegedly blocking competitors' access to iPhone features.
Here's What We Know
The lawsuit is likely to be filed in federal court, and according to people with knowledge of the situation, the US presidential administration is stepping up its antitrust fight against most of the country's largest tech giants.
The Department of Justice is already suing Google Alphabet for monopolisation, and the Federal Trade Commission is bringing cases against Meta and Amazon. By the way, amid the news of the lawsuit, Apple shares fell by 1.4%.
For the first time in 14 years, the Department of Justice may sue Apple for violating antitrust laws, accusing it of illegally blocking competitors' iPhone hardware and software functions.
In addition, Apple has recently been fined €1.8 billion in Europe for not allowing competitors to offer cheaper music streaming platforms. The smartphone maker responded to the fine by appealing and claimed that regulators were unable to find any "verifiable evidence of consumer harm".
